Since we are reading The Fountainhead, it would connect very well with the recipient of this year's Presidential Medal of Freedom -- Frank Gehry and Maya Lin. Look them up and write down three facts about each. Submit your facts first thing on Monday, November 28th.
Frank Gehry
ReplyDeleteFrank Gehry studied architecture and design at the University of Southern California and Harvard University and has received more than a dozen honorary degrees from various universities. Gehry has also designed the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown LA. He additionally has served in the US army.
Maya Lin
Maya Lin on the other hand received her bachelor's degree from Yale, where she studied architecture and sculpture. At age 21, she designed the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC. In 1949 (10 years prior to Lin's birth), her parents fled communism in China and immigrated to the United States.
Maya Lin was praised for her work in sculpture, architecture and landscape art. She became famous at age 21 as a designer of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. Her granite wall wont the competition.
ReplyDeleteFrank Gehry studied architecture and design at the University of Southern California. He served in the army. He has designed many things. For example, he designed jewelry for Tiffany's, vodka bottles and even a hat for Lady Gaga.

Frank Gehry is a Canadian born architecture who started his fame with only the design of his private residence in California. Only some of his most famous works include the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles, Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, France, and the New World Center here in Miami Beach. Now, 87 years old, he is going to be the designer of the future Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial.
ReplyDeleteMaya Lin was first noticed with her Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC at the age of 21. She is the niece of Lin Huiyin, who is said to be the first female architect in China. Lin, who is now 57, owns her own studio in New York and still continued designing. She even designed the Civil Rights Memorial in Alabama.
1. 1-Miami Sunset is one of the few schools in Miami Dade County working with drones as part of their engineering program. 2-Jamahl Horne was considered "the Rock" for the Knights football team this year by Coach Nickel 3-The color guard team "The Sensations" are making a comeback this year.
ReplyDelete2. The difference between living and existing is that when you're living you're doing things in life that make you feel alive and give you that pump of adrenaline and making you happy while existing is just going on with daily life while doing nothing exciting.
3. I think the newspaper should cover the Street soul hip hop team and their preparations onto trying to win a National Championship once again.

Maya Lin has published several books and is currently working on different architectural and sculptural works.
